‘Please Put On Your Own Oxygen Mask Before You Assist Anyone Else!’

How many times have you heard this whilst jetting off on your jollies? It makes sense – how can you help someone else if you’re fighting for air yourself?!  Extreme circumstances aside, how would you feel if we told you that this actually applies to our everyday lives?

We’ve all heard the term ‘Self-Care’. These days, it seems like it’s everywhere you turn, but what exactly does it mean? Well, it’s the best gift you could ever give to yourself.

It’s for you…FROM you!

It’s a way of putting yourself first for a change, of looking after yourself and really taking back the reins of your life. Seriously, when was the last time you were Number One, the Big Deal, the Main Event?

Do you look after everyone else whilst forgetting to look after yourself? Think about all the things you do on a daily basis for other people – partners, children, family, friends, bosses, colleagues, neighbours…get the drift?

Pile on top of that all the practical things you do, like cleaning, school runs, working, laundry, remembering every little last thing that needs to be remembered! Phew, we’re exhausted just typing this! How does reading this make you feel?

If you answered worn out, run-down, exhausted, weary, angry, tearful, resentful, overwhelmed or frazzled, we feel ya. We’ve been there. We know what it can be like.  

 So, when was the last time you were there for you? Can you even remember?

We’ve found that women who neglect their own needs and forget to nurture themselves, in amongst the mayhem of modern living, can often become unhappy, have low self esteem and sometimes feel resentful because of all the things that they have to cram in and take care of.

That’s where ‘Self-Care’ comes flying in, leotard on and cape flapping! It goes way beyond eating healthily and getting enough sleep (although we’re firm advocates of those, too). Self-Care is about finding all the things that you can do to make yourself happy. Nurture yourself. Treat yourself the way you would treat someone who matters to you. We’re talking about looking after yourself physically AND emotionally

Start with the tiniest of treats and magical things will begin to happen (we know, we’ve done this hundreds of times with hundreds of women). Life will suddenly seem more balanced, less frantic… it can even feel as though you have some kind of special clock that can create extra time in your day, and all because you did something nice for YOU. Self-Care is at the heart of feeling happy. We truly believe that and we have clear evidence from many of our clients.
